Canadian Pacific Railway, with employees in nine sites, started its initiative in 1999. CP Railway’s comprehensive program addresses the overall well-being of employees and their families. The program is supported by a five-year Corporate Wellness Plan and regular evaluation. Increased program participation has resulted in fewer cases of high blood pressure and high cholesterol during workplace screenings. Other highlights of the program include a Physical Wellness Subsidy, which reimburses employees for 50 per cent of fitness fees (up to $300 per year), and covers gym fees, yoga, martial arts memberships and services of a dietitian or weight loss program. Canadian Pacific Railway also recognizes the impact shift work can have on employees and their families and has implemented a Shifting to Wellness program to address this challenge. In addition, the CPR aims to partner with communities, by promoting community resources and opening workplace events, such as health fairs, to the community.
