The Government of Alberta is proud to announce the call for applications for the 2010-2011 Alberta Food for Health Awards - a Premier’s Award to recognize food processors, producers and researchers for their work in creating healthy foods for Albertans.
The Alberta Food for Health Awards – a Premier’s Award celebrates healthy food products that are available right here in Alberta. The awards also recognize the important role that industry and the research community play in improving our understanding of the health benefits of food.

Definitions
Producer - A producer is defined as a farmer, rancher or grower of agricultural commodities.
Processor - A processor is active in the business of changing a raw agricultural commodity into a value-added product through physical, chemical, or thermal means, including packaging; OR contracts to have product(s) processed and packaged on their behalf; OR
operates a processing facility that is formally registered by Federal or Provincial inspection authorities, AND
markets their products through wholesale distribution channels (retail, foodservice), or farmers' market.
Reseacher - A researcher is an individual or team that is conducting peer reviewed research within the Province of Alberta. In the field of scientific research, a researcher is also called an investigator or scientist. Research being completed by a researcher is not limited to only that being conducted at a University, but also research conducted within a private company. Only one lead can be designated and must have the authority to represent the proposed research for the entire team.
