There are five food product award categories and one researcher award category:
Food Product Award Categories:
1. Healthy Alberta food sold at a farmers’ market. Eligible food products must be currently sold through a Government approved farmers’ market and prepared in a commercial food establishment as described in the Food Regulations pursuant to the Public Health Act.
2. Healthy Alberta food sold through a retail outlet such as a grocery store, convenience store, wholesaler, or a specialty food shop such as a meat or dairy retail operation, delicatessen or bakery. Also includes internet sales and fundraising ventures.
3. Healthy Alberta food sold through food service such as restaurants, cafeterias, food kiosks and institutions such as hospitals, correctional institutions and schools.
4. Healthy Alberta food sold through vending machines as defined as a free-standing method of selling food products without the use of a cashier.
5. Healthy Alberta foods for specialty diets. Which includes foods formulated specifically to address special dietary needs. Supported by Alberta Innovates Health Solutions.
Researcher Award Category:
1. Healthy Alberta food and nutrition researcher that is involved in basic research, applied research or clinical research that increases the understanding of the relationship between food and human health. Supported by Alberta Innovates Bio-Solutions.
