Wainwright Wellness Forever
This project will by hosted by three collaborating schools in the community of Wainwright. By creating changes to the food offered in each school, providing specific health related education to students and professional development for staff to teach in all areas of health promotion, and increased partnerships with community agencies a coordinated approach to comprehensive health promotion will be achieved.
On Track: A Healthy School Community Collaboration Project
The Medicine Hat Catholic Separate School Division will implement a program which will bring together school and local community as well as health, wellness and safety agencies in a coordinated effort to reach students and parents. Students in grades 1-5 will be exposed to formal education, information sessions, and methods of self monitoring their overall health behaviour. Wellness coaches will also be designated to help spread the information to as many people as possible.
Creating Sustainable Active Leadership
This project which is sponsored by Olds College, David Thompson Health Region, the Town of Olds and Chinook’s Edge School Division will inform rural students about a variety of healthy school community wellness activities and initiatives to address healthy living. This project will enable students to become Youth Wellness Leaders so they are able to share their knowledge with rural students and their communities while actively engaging stakeholders to support the creation of a student led Healthy School Community Wellness Plan.
The Battle River Project
Sponsored by the Alberta Teachers’ Association, this project will examine the following question: “How can the school environment and health behaviours (healthy eating, physical activity and positive social environments) of children and youth be positively improved when a Comprehensive School Health model, The Ever Active Schools Program, is implemented with School District support?” Ever Active Schools is partnering with the Battle River School District, East Central Health and the University of Alberta to support each participating school to asses their needs, design a specific plan of action and implement changes in each of the priority areas of healthy eating, active living and positive social environments.
Healthy For Life: Cool Moves
Cool Moves will be planned and implemented in six of the Boys and Girls Clubs Youth and Neighbourhood Centres located in high risk, low-income communities throughout Edmonton. The project is comprised of two main parts Eat Smart, which encourages participants to make healthier eating choices through meals, workshops and presentations and Play Cool, which encourage participants to engage in more physical activity through play, non-traditional sports, workshops and presentations.
Teaming UP 4 Healthy Learners
This project will be offered to all Calgary Board of Education schools to link classroom instruction in nutrition, physical activity and positive social behaviours with the whole school environment and community. It will involve education and awareness building, the identification of health champions at each school, the use of a wide variety of resources to support schools in implementing meaningful strategies and an involved recognition process.
